A man left home running. He ran a ways and then turned left, ran the same distance and turned left again, ran the same distance and turned left again. When he got home there were two masked men. Who were they?

You have 2 oddly shaped unmarked containers. One holds 3 gallons and the other holds 5 gallons. Your task is to put exactly 4 gallons into the large container. You can use as much water as you want. Go!

Re: riddles (open to anyone)
This might not be the most efficient way to do it, but:
Fill the 5 gallon bucket, then fill the 3 gallon bucket from the 5 gallon bucket, leaving exactly 2 gallons in the 5 gallon bucket. Now dump the 3 gallon bucket. Now pour the 2 gallons from the 5 gallon bucket into the 3 gallon bucket. Now re-fill the 5 gallon bucket, and use it to top off the 3 gallon bucket until it is full. At this point there is exactly 4 gallons in the 5 gallon bucket...

Re: riddles (open to anyone)
Oh good one. I did it backwards kind of and it took two extra steps, so I guess I was wrong, but it still works.
fill the 3
pour 3 into 5
fill the 3
top off 5 (leave 1 in 3)
empty the 5
pour the 1 into the 5
add a 3
thats 4!

A ship pulls into the harbor and docks up. There is a rope ladder thrown over board. 9 rungs are out of the water, and the tide is all the way out. The tide rises 1 foot per hour. After 6 hours, how many rungs will be out of the water?

Re: riddles (open to anyone)
Three Jeeps and three Suzukis need to get over the bridge. No more that two can go either way at one time. Every time something goes over, at least one thing must come back. At no time can you ever have more Jeeps than Suzukis on either side of the bridge, or the Jeeps will eat the Suzukis "OUMP", not even for a split second. Go ahead.

Re: riddles (open to anyone)
I'm stumped. If every time anything goes over, something has to come back, however you try to solve it, on the last trip over, something has to come back, and you are stuck with no way to get everybody across...
Re: riddles (open to anyone)
Ok, my bad. Nothing has to go back on the verry last trip.

I'm so literal. Now I'll have to think about it again
Re: riddles (open to anyone)
I was just reading some old ones and realized that I totally screwed up the one with the 2 adults and 2 kids. It should be each adult is 150 lbs, each child is 75 lbs, and the boat only holds 150 lbs. Now how many trips would it take?

2 kids go over first
1 kid comes back
1 adult goes over
1 kid comes back
2 kids go over
1 kid comes back
1 adult goes over
1 kid comes back
2 kids go over
So that makes nine trips...

Re: riddles (open to anyone)
Ok, I thought I posted this one already. Maybe I posted it in the wrong thread or something. You are in a house. You can not see outside. There are 3 lightswitches inside, and there are 3 incondecsant lamps on the porch outside. You cannot re-enter after you exit the house. You can manipulate the switches however you want. When you go outside, can you explain which switch controlls which lamp?
