Tuesday February 3rd at 7pm, at Ricardos restaurant in Factoria, unless someone comes up with another suggestion
Dues are up for 2015
Take a look at your calendars for this summer to discuss an out of state run this summer. Also for when and where'd you like to go?

ORO LiteSPOTZ
I ordered a set of ORO LiteSPOTZ for rock lights on the Jeep, and they came in today. Man these things are nice. Really well built. 18 LEDs in each light, an embedded magnet for magnetic mount, or you can screw them down if you want. Fully encased in solid plastic, to be completely impervious to water.
$129 for a set of six lights, a lighted switch, wire, and these nifty heat shrink connectors with a solder ring in the middle (heat it up and it shrinks the tubing and flows the solder all in one easy step for a waterproof connection).
Bought from here: http://www.4x4rockshop.com

I started working on installing them tonight, but it was just too cold in the garage. So I didn't get very far...

Yeah, I know the feeling, I'm dragging my little heater around with me, and have triple layered the carpet on the garage floor

Re: ORO LiteSPOTZ
Well I got the lights all installed today, flipped the switch.... and .... nothing.
After spending about an hour going back over every bit of my wiring, I took a meter to switch...
I got a defective switch.

Re: ORO LiteSPOTZ
was the switch from the kit or one you bought separately?

Re: ORO LiteSPOTZ
It came with the kit. It is just a simple single pole single throw switch with an LED light that shows when it is on, so it has three terminals (12V in, 12V out and ground).
Re: ORO LiteSPOTZ
Got the lights all wired up last night with a new switch. I just picked up one at Radio Shack, and didn't notice it was for 125V AC, not 12V DC, so the switch works fine, but there is no indicator light to show when the lights are on. Anyway these lights are very nice - they throw a decent amount of light underneath the vehicle.
I also picked up a cheap set of 55W driving lights at Walmart and mounted them on the spare tire carrier for auxiliary backup lights. These things are super bright, and make a HUGE difference when backing up in the dark.
And I re-aimed my front driving lights, angling them out and down for better coverage offroad (since I never use them on the highway anyway. Now I can turn my headlights off if I'm being spotted, and these lights won't blind the spotter.
With all of these lights on, my Jeep is lit up like a Christmas tree.
I'm ready for night runs in Moab now!

Night runs at Moab!!! I thought you were supposed to turn off all lights and feel your way through the rocks. Become one with the jeep and your surroundings. I say lights off, who's with me. We'll start on Moab rim trail, those in the water missed the turn.

Moab Rim would be a lot less scary in the dark, you wouldn't be able to see that you were on the edge of a 1000 ft vertical cliff.

Don't worry about rock lights too much, Zip... They are pretty cool on the night runs, but not absolutely necessary. This will be the first year that our rig (and Bill's) will have them.

Yeah, the run we usually do at night is actually pretty tame. Whatever rig leads needs to have decent lights, but the rest can just follow his taillights.

Re: ORO LiteSPOTZ
Okay just for Justin, here is a picture. Pitch dark garage, no headlights, but the front and rear driving lights are on (the fronts are angled down and out), and the LiteSpotz are on. You can see how pretty much the entire underside of the Jeep is lit up. It isn't dazzlingly bright, but plenty bright enough for night spotting once your eyes are adjusted to the dark.
Re: ORO LiteSPOTZ
I couldn't get my camera to take a picture with just the rock lights on - it wouldn't focus, and I couldn't figure out how to manually focus it...

That only works on the passes on extremely foggy, wind blowing, bad alternater nights...I'll bring a long stick just in case though
