Evans Creek Snow Run 12/08
Participants: John (non R-n-L) & I
We met up at the 410 Cafe at 8Amish, another friend Randy showed up to the cafe but was to hung over from the night before to continue past there
Anyways, John & I headed up shortly after breakfast, picked up snow just past Wilkison, the Y was over flowed with trailer/tow rigs, glad I unloaded back at the cafe and drove up.
1st trail was the 311a, there was two groups ahead of us but we decided to go that way anyways. After flogging on the initial icey climb we aired down some more, hit it in 3rd and carried the momemtum right up (more to come on this). Caught the 2nd group in pretty much right away on the long climb past the big mudholes. They were struggling so we turned around and went back out.
Bobby Longfield and company were down in the lot when we came back out. I thought I heard them say that they were headed to the upper 311b, so John & I thought we'd go in from the lower. We got about a 3rd of the way in when we heard that the groups on the 311a had a rollover and needed assistance. We turned back out from the 311b and headed towards the 311a from the top to see if we could assist. Once we were close I called to see waht type of assistance they required, all it was, was a 5/8" socket which they had acquired.
We headed back out to the campground and headed up towards the upper section of the park, ran into Booby's group. They had been trying to go up the road towards the 520 to rescuse a stuck truck. Neither Bobby (42's) or Odie (47's) could make it up to the truck. So everyone headed down, we followed Bobby & Co to the pit. Took a few pics then headed up towards the 198, the snow was getting to deep for John so we turned around to headout.
John started hearing some noise form under his rig, found out that he has ripped off both of his upper control arms. We limped it down the hill and were going to trailer it on my trailer and drive my jeep to his place but it got so cold that the inside & outside of the jeep was freezing. Well fortunately the traffic was super heavey down 410, and on 167 he was able to limp it all the way home...surprisenly. I found out after I got home, and one of Bobby's buddies mentioned it up in the snow, but I broke the front right shackle. All this damage I believe was done on the entrance to the 311a, that's the only place I recollect hitting real hard.
Anyways it was a beautiful day up there, actually wasn't that cold, till we headed back down. Got to Buckley and it was like someone left the back door open. The snow was coming down diagonally and it was COLD. Found out also on my way home that the 4x4 in my truck wasn't functioning either I'll have to figure that one out quick tomorrow.
Anyhow here's a few pictures, maybe next time I can get my timing down to run with a few more R-n-L's
