Club Meeting is Monday, August 3rd
Just wanted to remind everyone that the next club meeting will be Monday August 3rd at 7:00PM at Mick Kellys inside Renton Motor Cycle.
We will probably be discussing more details of the Rubicon trip coming up, so those who are planning to go on that run, it would be great to see you at the meeting!

Friggin had to stay late to cover for somebody at work.

Re: Club Meeting is Monday, August 3rd
So, my take from last nights meeting was that Chris, Jon & Young will meet at my house around 7pmish on the Friday the 21st to head south around 8pmish?
We'll travel as far as possible w/o compromising safety, hopefully at least through Oregon?
We'll meet up Saturday the 22nd at the staging area on the east side of the Rubicon (Homewood) with the rest of the R-n-L contingent? Stay the night and head out on Sunday the 23rd AM to travel around to the west side of the Rubicon commencing the run at Wentworth Springs?
??????
Bill, was mentioning that there were no known gas stations? towards the beginning of the trail on the west side? And that we would not be going via Placerville, or Georgetown? Can some one share the route we'll be taking from east to west? I believe that if I can fill up at least once somewhere, somewhat over half way around that I shouldn't have any issues w/ gas.

My map shows wentworth springs on the eastside, is there two wentworth springs?
I only need to know what day and what westside staging area we are meeting up at. Since I am driving the Jeep down I won't drive to the East side only to have to drive back to the west side.
Since I have the 20th to 31st off I will be leaving early and taking my time going down and will probably stay a night or two in the area.

Jim, when I get home tonight I'll post up the GPS coordinates of the small staging area at Wentworth Springs where we aired down last time. You can just meet us there on Sunday morning, I'm guessing around 9:00-9:30AM...

Zip, the route we will be taking Sunday morning to the trail head from the Tahoe side is:
Highway 89 South from Homewood to South Lake Tahoe
Highway 50 West from South Lake Tahoe to Ice House Road
Ice House Road North to the turn off for Loon Lake
Go straight at this intersection towards Gerle Creek (past Gerle Creek Campground and Airport Flat Campground).
At the sign for Bunker Hill Lookout and McKinstry Lake turn right onto off-shoot paved road.
Go past Lawyer Cow Camp (some old buildings still standing there) to a faint, narrow road off to the right - that's Wentworth Springs Road.
Wentworth Springs Road becomes the Rubicon Trail after the pavement ends.
If I remember correctly, the staging area is at that turnoff.

Re: Club Meeting is Monday, August 3rd
I have a suggestion .....
After a bit of research, I found that there is a brand new, very nice gas station in Freshpond:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/freshpond-trading-post-chevron-station-pollock-pines#hrid:QOkM-1F1QzhYTL8LMWI3qA
Address is:
7720 Hwy 50
Pollock Pines, CA 95726
This is just 1 mile from Ice House Road, so for those of us coming from the Tahoe side, only 1 mile out of our way.
How about we meet up there on Sunday morning for anyone not caravanning?
We can gas up there, just 30 miles from the trailhead. This is 15 miles farther out than Ice House Resort, but last time we ran the trail, Ice House didn't have gas - I'm not sure I want to rely on them having it.
According to mapquest, that gas station is 91 minutes (61 miles) from Homewood CA (Tahoe staging area).

Sounds like Jon and Jess and Robin and I will be caravaning down together, leaving early Saturday morning from Jon and Jess's house. We will plan to meet up with rubirock in Portland...
